Gorgeous Cased Glass Iridescent Art Glass Bulbus Vase-Signed-James Norton
It is signed, and I was recently advised it was made by James Norton. He was a Canadian artist and was associated with Urban Glass. He passed away in 2016. This little pot — it measures 16 1/2″ in circumference and stands about 3″ in height. The colors are magnificent – the iridescent peacock blue and reds, green, yellow, purple, etc. The pot has a slight texture which makes the colors pop. Check out my other interesting and eclectic items. Thanks for looking and good luck. Your item will be well packed and padded, fully insured and trackable. Lalique Hutan Vase NIB in perfect mint condition. Lalique’s legendary quality is immediately apparent. It has that classic Lalique look of satinized or frosted glass contrasting with sparkling and ultra transparent clear crystal. The vase measures 8.5 inches wide and just under 5 inches in height. It is a good size vase made of heavy lead crystal. Mint in box, with original paperwork, custom fit padded box, Lalique sticker, and Lalique ® France signature on bottom. From the information card with the vase. Named after a palm forest in Thailand, the vase Hutan seems to gently sway with its sides decorated by lyers of leaves dipicted in relief. This square-based vase with its original and innovative shape evokes the rithmic swaying of palm trees with a motif of leafy foliage in contrasting satin-finished and transparent crystal. Marie-Claude LALIQUE design, 1994. Measures appx 8 1/2″ across and almost 5″ tall. It weighs about 4 pounds 10 ounces. Retired now and hard to find especially in this condition at this price. Since the early 20th century when Rene Lalique started to design perfume bottles for Francois Coty in Paris, collectors all over the world have been searching for the most beautiful Lalique crystal pieces. These Lalique crystal pieces of art are hand made by Lalique crystals master glass workers. Lalique crystal has always been handcrafted in the Workshops that Rene Lalique built in 1921. They are located in the village of Wingen-sur-Moder in Alsace, a region of France which has the strongest glassmaking traditions. It has remained to this day the worlds sole Lalique production facility. Rene Lalique became famous for his designs of both jewelry and art glass. The company curtailed most operations during the German occupation of WWII. Rene passed right at the end of the war in 1945. His son Marc then took over the business and made some important changes. He changed the basic formula from 12% lead oxide demi crystal to 24% full lead crystal. This made pieces produced after 1945 much brighter, sparkling, more transparent, and much heavier because of all that lead content. Marc was later succeeded by Renes grand daughter Marie. Thanks to a team of passionate designers, Lalique creates each year beautiful pieces inspired by three themes dear to Rene Lalique: women, flora and fauna. In the creation studio, designers use traditional techniques such as drawing and modelling but also new technologies thanks to digitization and 3D printing. Once at the factory, the manufacturing process begins. A single crystal piece can require up to 40 different steps. With precise and regular movements, the human hand, that of both artist and craftsman, creates pieces of exceptional quality while preserving the ancestral know-how. Lalique is proud to count among its craftsmen four who carry the title of Best Craftsmen in France. The first few stages of the long process of production are related to the manufacturing of the molds which is a fundamental know-how of the factory. Then the glassmakers brave extreme temperatures in the hot glass workshops in order to gather, clean, shape and reheat the crystal. The melting crystal can reach 1,400°C and is captured and manipulated using a variety of techniques. In the cold glass workshops, a piece will undergo a succession of manual operations. These represent 2/3 of the time spent on the manufacturing of each object. The importance given to cold glass is characteristic of Lalique. It is the result of the extreme attention given to details, finishing and to the sculpture of each creation. The pieces are selected not only according to technical criteria (absence of defects) but also according to aesthetic criteria, with full respect of the creative teams intentions. During the entire process, each item is subject to rigorous checks before it can be signed by hand, a guarantee of its authenticity and quality. Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful and very rare large “Nakara” Art Glass ormolu decorated hand painted and jeweled vase by the C. This unusual Nakara decorated opal glass vase has an acid/matte finish and a deep olive green background color with a beautifully hand painted chrysanthemum bouquet on the front and smaller mums decorate the back. The design on both the front and back is further decorated a pattern of white beads (often called jewels) that highlight the design. The flowers are also embellished with thickly applied white enamel on the many of the petal tips. The vase is further decorated with elaborate gilt decorated pierced handles that are attached to the embossed rim. The matching foot ring is attached to ornate feet that curve at the bottom and extend high above the foot ring. Measures 12 1/4″ high and the vase alone measures 10 3/8″ high with a top diameter of 4 3/4. This stunning vase is in excellent Estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The background color is not faded nor is the paint worn. There are some very minor no-harm marks at the base of one of the handles where the metal has rubbed against the surface of the vase. There should be a way to remove these marks, however, we will leave this to the new owner. There is also some very faint/minor wear in the gilded areas as expected although there is no damage to the any of the ormolu. The base is marked Nakara, C. And has an old paper label that we have not removed but can easily be removed, if desired. This shape vase with identical ormolu is pictured on pages 42-44 of the reference book Wave Crest, the Glass of C. Monroe by Wilfred R. The chrysanthemum decoration is also pictured in items on page 125. Vase is also pictured on pages 92 and 93 of the reference book “The Collector’s Encyclopedia of American Art Glass, Second Edition” by John A Shuman III. This vase has all the design elements you would expect to find on any Wave Crest or Nakara item and it will become one of the highlights of any C. Monroe art glass collection! Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then hand decorated. There were three types of decoration used on this opal glass – Wave Crest, Kelva and Nakara each decorated with their distinct style decoration. Both “Kelva” and “Nakara” decorated items were made in less quantity than basic “Wave Crest” items and for that reason are generally more expensive and harder to find. This large size vase is a very hard to find item and is considered to be very rare. This glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. As undecorated glass blanks to be decorated by their artists.
