Charles Lotton Art Glass is very well known and highly collected. I always enjoy finding examples of his work out in the marketplace. One of the classic styles of art glass has always been his lava glass examples. One of the pictures shows his signature and the date, 1989, of production. The vase stands just over 9 tall with an opening of 4 1/4 across. I have included numerous pictures of various angles and lighting for this listing. I will note that on the bottom where the silver colored glass fuses into the vase, there is an area where you can feel a sharp edge. This is not damage nor repair, just from the production process of this work of art. A fine well ground, polished pontil can be seen also. There are no chips, cracks, damage, or repairs, no missing silver glass appliqué. No staining or scratching on the inside visible. A superb and well cared for example from this fine American art glass studio. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. ALL REASONABLE OFFERS WILL BE CONSIDERED. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery porcelain in the near future. For your consideration we have a striking Jerry Heer for Lotton Studios Art Glass vase. Measuring 3 1/2 in height, it is in excellent condition – no issues noted. The base is signed and dated, “2002”. A beautiful example of Jerry Heer’s craftsmanship. Lotton Art Glass was founded in 1970 by self-taught glass artist Charles Lotton. In the beginning his studio was a small shop in his backyard but by 1973 a move to larger facilities was necessary. Charles became quite well known for his experimentation with glass formulas and colors and the glass studio quickly rose to stellar heights in the art glass world. Charles’s magnificent glassblowing skill and unique artistic vision gave birth to some of the world’s most awe inspiring art glass creations. He was soon joined by his sons Daniel Lotton and John Lotton, and his nephew, Jerry Heer, who brought their own individual and equally impressive styles to Lotton Glass. Lotton art glass can be found in the permanent collections of numerous prestigious museums including the Smithsonian Institute and the Corning Museum of Glass. As most people know, these pieces become more beautiful with age because of movements and distress in the woods, some having restoration. Spindle turnings will not be uniform and swell unevenly with age. Woods tend to get stress fractures on support systems and where wide board construction is used. 85% of 18th Century veneers have had some restoration during their life. Pine secondary woods might fracture, making overlays and veneers have the same fracture lines. Old finishes might alligator, fade, fisheye or darken, depending on where the pieces was placed. All of these are desired by a true collector and gives it personality. Do not expect these early pieces to be like new. These pieces age gracefully just as we do, giving them unique personality. We do our best to describe and photograph all items thoroughly, but handle a quantity of pieces every day and might miss something. We know if they tick, run, move and are in tune with the quality of sound, but offer no guarantees on these items. You are welcome to personally view or pick your item up at our showroom, \which contains Early American to Continental furniture, fine paintings and prints, fine porcelains and glass, plus almost every category pertaining to our past. Up for your considerations is a very nice Great Signed Charles Lotton 1999 Multi Flora Studio Art Glass Vase. Please See All Our Lotton Up! Charles Lotton was born in 1935 in a little Southern Illinois town called Elizabethtown. Charles grew up in a one room log cabin. He recalls his mom washing clothes down in Peter’s Creek to make ends meet. After high school he joined the Air Force and worked as a trouble shooter for bombing & navigational equipment. Later Charles married his wife Mary and began a family of four children, 3 boys and a girl. In 1961 they began a successful hair salon which started his artistic endeavors. In May of 1970 Charles went to The Art Institute and spent the day there to watch glass blowing. He came home that day and told his wife that he was going to be a glass blower and started building a furnace in the back yard. By January of 1972 Charles met up with the Tiffany expert Lillian Nassau. She had insight that Charles would become great one day. Lillian bought all of Charles’ glass for the first five years which enabled him to transition from his hair salon into the world of art glass. Little did anyone else realize forty-five years later Charles would still be creating beautiful one of a kind works of glass art along with his children. Throughout the years Charles glass has continued to evolve from simple paperweights to Vases, Bowls, Flower Forms, Persian Water Sprinklers, Pendant Lighting, Lamps and Chandeliers. His designs have also evolved from a molten blob made from melted pop bottles in his backyard into the most beautiful creations in the world today. Charles is completely self taught, down to his own formulas that create the color of his glass. Charles has strong determination to succeed yet has one of the most humble natures of anyone that you will meet. He is a true man of God. Charles attributes his success with his strong faith. He prays that the Lord will continue to bless him and his family with making beautiful glass each day. Today Charles is world-renown for the most beautiful designs in art, like the’Multi Flora’ and’Cypriot’ styles. In Great Estate Condition (Please See Photos). No Chips, Cracks or Repairs.
