Threaded Glass Leaf Vase. Etched Signed & Numbered. No Chips Or Cracks. Treading In Excellent Condition. Bought 20 Years Ago. Out Of Truckload Of Antiques From Penn. Perhaps He Made This Prior To Going To Sandwich Glass Co. He First Lived In Pennsylvania. This Is A Superb Example Of His Work. Nicholas Lutz, originally from France, came to the company in the 1870s and brought new styles to production including threaded ware and paperweights. Lutz 21 February 1835 St. Louis-lès-Bitche, France – 31 March 1906 Somerville, Massachusetts was a French glassmaker who received his training at the Cristalleries de St. Louis, and later emigrated to the United States where he settled in White Mills in Pennsylvania, later working at the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company.

SIGNED DURAND ART GLASS MARIGOLD LUSTRE THREADED 2028 VASE. Beautiful art glass vase by Durand Art Glass, a division of the Vineland Flint Glass Works in Vineland, New Jersey. The vase has an iridescent marigold lustre finish decorated with applied threads of glass in a spider web design. The vase is shape number 2028 with a tapered body, flared top, and footed base. The vase stands about 8 1/2″ tall and the body is approximately 3″ wide at the shoulders. The underside of the base is signed on the polished pontil “DURAND 2028 8″. It was made sometime between 1924 and 1931. This vase exemplifies the short-lived art glass line developed by Victor Durand Jr. A third-generation glassworker trained at the Cristalleries de Baccarat. Durand came with his family to New Jersey in 1884 and helped his father establish the Vineland Flint Glass Works in 1887. In 1924, he fulfilled his dream to establish an art glass line, which he named Durand Art Glass. Durand produced a variety of art glass designs, but one of the most successful was the pulled and threaded decorated vases, like this example. This particular example demonstrates the high degree of skill of the glassworkers who produced it, and a sensitivity to color and style. Durand Art Glass, however, was short-lived. Production ceased shortly after Durand’s tragic death in an automobile accident in 1931. I guarantee this piece to be a genuine Durand vase and NOT a fake or reproduction. Condition of this Durand threaded vase is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. I inspected the threads carefully and they are nearly perfect with just a few tiny missing spots that you practically need a hand lens to see. The iridescent surface is unblemished. Overall, this collectible vase looks fantastic and displays beautifully. It’s one of the nicest examples you could ever expect to find. It would make a fine addition to any collection. Please take a close look at the many photos I’ve provided and judge condition for yourself. Signed examples of this 2028 vase are quite rare, especially in such pristine condition. DURAND signed -1920’s Gold Threaded HEARTS & VINES American made ART GLASS VASE
Durand Art Glass was produced by Vineland Flint Glassworks owned by Mr. And his father founded the Vineland Flint Glass Works in 1897 in Vineland, New Jersey. Made in the United States… Victor Durand started this line during their’artistic glass’ period in 1924 and produced until 1931…. This american made Durand vase has gold and blue iridescent heart design against a cream colored background and iridescent yellow interior… The Durand vase is finished with random applied gold iridescent threading. Has polished pontil and hand incised Durand on the underside in silver aluminum color…. This vase measures 10 inches tall top rim diameter is 3 inches, Base rim diameter is 3.5 inches.. Due to age and previous ownership, light signs of previous use needs to be taken into consideration – Threading is in outstanding condition with very very minor loss of the gold threading, overall condition is outstanding and original… Any other imperfections would be craft related only. Tend to find more of the Durand Vases with losses which you will find in many durand vases with attached threading… Nash, and Victor Durand – went out on his own to create some of the finest circa early 1900’s American Art Glass ever made… Durand art glass received the Medal of Honor at the Sesquicentennial International Exposition in Philadelphia in 1926. Many Durand pieces were not signed, especially the early wares. They were marked with silver and black paper labels, which usually wore away over time leaving the pieces unmarked today.. Some had a hand incised marked reading only Durand. ” Sometimes the brand was accompanied by a large “V and numbers indicating the shape number and height of the piece. Most of these engraved marks were traced with an aluminum pencil giving the lettering a silver appearance. Just re-package in its original packaging materials, box and insured (or similar in size)..
