We have the privilege to offer you this absolutely gorgeous signed Tiffany pulled feather, gold lustre, favrile glass gold dore bronze trumpet vase. The favrile glass vase is signed L. For a brief history on favrile glass, Tiffany received the patent for favrile glass in 1894 and the first piece was made in 1896 and in 1900 favrile glass won a grand prize at the Paris Exposition. Unlike most iridescent glasses, favrile is different due to its color not being just on the surface, but being embedded in the glass. The favrile word originated from the original English trade name, fabrile, which means handcrafted or hand-wrought. Tiffany changed the word to favrile, as they thought it sounded better. The colors in favrile glass, you will find gold lustre, samian red, mazarin blue, turquoise blue and aquamarine. If you research, you will find that favrile was the first art glass to be used in stained-glass windows and it compliments a large ornamental clock in the Guardian Building in Detroit. It is in wonderful condition, having no cracks, hairlines or repairs. The patina on the gold dore bronze base is exceptional. As most people know, these pieces become more beautiful with age because of movements and distress in the woods, some having restoration. Spindle turnings will not be uniform and swell unevenly with age. Wood tends to get stress fractures on support systems and where wide board construction is used. 85% of 18th Century veneers have had some restoration during their life. Pine secondary woods might fracture, making overlays and veneers have the same fracture lines. Old finishes might alligator, fade, fisheye or darken, depending on where the pieces were placed. All of these are desired by a true collector and gives it personality. Do not expect these early pieces to be like new. These pieces age gracefully just as we do, giving them unique personality. We do our best to describe and photograph all items thoroughly, but handle a quantity of pieces every day and might miss something. We know if they tick, run, move and are in tune with the quality of sound, but offer no guarantees on these items.
