SIGNED DURAND ART GLASS MARIGOLD LUSTRE THREADED 2028 VASE. Beautiful art glass vase by Durand Art Glass, a division of the Vineland Flint Glass Works in Vineland, New Jersey. The vase has an iridescent marigold lustre finish decorated with applied threads of glass in a spider web design. The vase is shape number 2028 with a tapered body, flared top, and footed base. The vase stands about 8 1/2″ tall and the body is approximately 3″ wide at the shoulders. The underside of the base is signed on the polished pontil “DURAND 2028 8″. It was made sometime between 1924 and 1931. This vase exemplifies the short-lived art glass line developed by Victor Durand Jr. A third-generation glassworker trained at the Cristalleries de Baccarat. Durand came with his family to New Jersey in 1884 and helped his father establish the Vineland Flint Glass Works in 1887. In 1924, he fulfilled his dream to establish an art glass line, which he named Durand Art Glass. Durand produced a variety of art glass designs, but one of the most successful was the pulled and threaded decorated vases, like this example. This particular example demonstrates the high degree of skill of the glassworkers who produced it, and a sensitivity to color and style. Durand Art Glass, however, was short-lived. Production ceased shortly after Durand’s tragic death in an automobile accident in 1931. I guarantee this piece to be a genuine Durand vase and NOT a fake or reproduction. Condition of this Durand threaded vase is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. I inspected the threads carefully and they are nearly perfect with just a few tiny missing spots that you practically need a hand lens to see. The iridescent surface is unblemished. Overall, this collectible vase looks fantastic and displays beautifully. It’s one of the nicest examples you could ever expect to find. It would make a fine addition to any collection.
