Authentic Masterpiece by Patrick Wadley Etched Vase
Authentic Masterpiece by Patrick Wadley Etched Vase. This could be his largest work of this type. This bright beautiful Cobalt Blue cylinder measures 20 1/4 tall and is 6 in diameter. The wonderful blue cylinder is very thick glass. The piece has numerous figures circulating around the cylinder, with many symbols floating within the scene. I would call this a Nordic Opera, with dragons and swords and Celtic rings. The human figure is prominent in this work which would be expected. The translucency doesnt come through as well with these photos, but is a truly magnificent piece of etched glasswork. This wonderful piece of American folk art came from the collection of Bob Self and Pie Galiant. They were avid collectors of American folk art (see featured article from the home section of the New York Times). The work is signed and dated on the side. I have included numerous photographs to try and show this work. This would be an excellent addition to a museum collection in fact The Corning Museum would love to receive this work as a donation. He has had numerous solo exhibitions. Due to the date of this work 1988; Ill mention the exhibit Glass Opera. 1988, and Confessions of a Cultural Kleptomaniac Matrix Gallery. I have an extensive bio of his professional experience, solo exhibitions, group exhibitions and selected bibliography which include Patrick Wadley, Glass Art Magazine, Dec. You can find Pie Galiant in the Directory of Restorers in the book Collecting American Country by Mary Ellisor Emmerling. Ref: Patrick Wadley, Glass, glass etching, cobalt blue, vase, cylinder. His etched and sandblasted designs and figurations on glass objects were exhibited and collected nationally. Wadley was a natural in the print studio; his etchings and monotypes display a rare talent and understanding of the possibilities of the media. Patrick Wadley was born in Oklahoma in 1950. He studied briefly at the University of Oklahoma and Sam Houston State University. In the Early 1970s he made his home in Austin. While known primarily for his glass, he was also accomplished in printmaking and sculpture. His interest in people is reflected in his subject matter the human figure. Combining images from many cultures and times in unique often fanciful ways, the majority of his pieces portray people in moments rich with detail, frequently evoking narratives as if the pieces were scenes taken from an opera. Even many of his later works, which express preoccupations with death and spirituality more seriously, maintain a certain whimsy amid the intensity. Before his death in September 1992, his work with glass appeared in over 25 shows, across the United States, in Europe and Japan. His expertise in the medium was acknowledged with teaching positions at Pilchuck School and the New York Experimental Glass Workshop, where he was also Artist in Residence in 1986. Wadley first received recognition for his brilliantly complex etchings on two-dimensional glass panels and three dimensional glass forms. His work is held in numerous private collections around the world, as well as the Blanton Museum (formerly the Huntington) at the University of Texas at Austin, the High Museum in Atlanta and the Museum of the Rhode Island School of Design. During his lifetime Patrick forged strong personal and creative bonds with many people who have remained influential in continuing his personal and artistic legacy.
